St Paul of Thebes, also known as Paul the Anchorite or St Paul the Hermit, was a Coptic hermit and one of the earliest saints bearing the name of St Paul. St Paul the Hermit is known as one of the Desert Fathers, a movement of hermits and ascetics launched by St Anthony the Great. The chapel of St Paul the Hermit houses a painting depicting St Paul of Thebes and St Anthony of Egypt.
